Apprenticeship

The Apprenticeship Program is a joint effort supported by Operating Engineers Local No. 400 and Local 400's signatory contractors. The Program is registered with, and regulated by, the Montana Registered Apprenticeship Program.

Our Apprenticeship Program is designed to provide novice operators with the skills and knowledge necessary to become successful operating engineers.

The Apprenticeship Program typically lasts three years, where Apprentices will attend safety and trade related classes; receive hands on training in heavy equipment skills such as maintenance, welding, and operation; and be employed by one of Local 400's signatory contractors for paid on-the-job training.

Apprentices are required to complete a total of 4500 hours of paid, on-the-job training and a minimum of 144 hours of related supplemental instruction each year to successfully complete the program.
